KENAI PENINSULA ANIME CONVENTION

The Kenai Peninsula community was missing a gathering for geeks and nerds alike to come together to share in their interests and hobbies. Enter the year 2010, the inaugural year of the Kenai Peninsula Anime Convention.

From 2010 into 2014, KPAC was held annually on the Peninsula. Starting at the Peninsula Center Mall, migrating over to the Kenai Peninsula Anime Club on the college campus, then over to the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska.

KPAC had five consecutive shows in a row until it came time for the hibernation stage of the convention's life. Changes were happening all around with the KPAC Team and the decision to wait until the dust had settled was made in order to save the event for when the time was right to return.

Here in 2019...

The time has come to bring back this event to the Kenai Peninsula, and here we are! Ready to shine brighter than ever and bring back convention going fun to the Peninsula community!

We are excited to have you all here and cannot wait to see you all.
The Kenai Peninsula Anime Convention (KPAC) is now an official event ran by Taikai Corporation, an Alaskan 501c3 non-profit that puts on family-friend, hobby-based events for communities across the Last Frontier.

The Mascots

Meet Kumako and Beau, the official mascot duo for KPAC!

Kumako is a forest guardian that protects the living creatures within the grand forest she was born in. Her origins are unknown, but Kumako has always felt at peace within the forest. As she grew up, her mystical powers slowly began to surface. Kumako has the ability to transform into a giant bear through the use of her magic and the bear cloak that she began her journey with.

One day, she stumbled upon a small bear cub wondering around alone in the forest. Kumako kept watch on the little one to make sure he returned safely to his mother. After a few hours of tracking the cub, Kumako discovered that the cub's mother had been lost to hunters.

Now, the two of them stick together - to protect each other and the forest they both call home.

The KPAC mascots were originally created by local Alaskan artist, Phillip Matias.

Regular Alaska convention attendees may recognize the work of Phillip as he was the artist behind several of Senshi Con's early mascot designs. Phillip is a Filipino artist living here in the state of Alaska, working hard on his art every day to get better and expand his skills as an artist.
